Cold resistance of rubber products

The cold resistance of rubber products refers to their ability to maintain elasticity and normal work in low temperature environments. Vulcanized rubber at low temperature, due to the relaxation process slowed down sharply, hardness, modulus and intramolecular friction increased, significantly reduced elasticity, resulting in a decline in the working ability of rubber products.

Type of rubber with good cold resistance

  • Silicone rubber: Not only has excellent heat resistance, but also has good cold resistance, can maintain good elasticity at low temperatures.
  • Natural rubber (NR)andButadiene rubber (BR): Compared with other rubber types, their cold resistance is also better and their embrittlement temperature is lower.

Ways to improve cold resistance

  • Select the appropriate raw rubber varieties, such as rubber containing double bonds and ether bonds, which can maintain good elasticity at low temperatures.
  • The vulcanization system is adjusted, such as appropriately reducing the crosslinking density, to reduce the adverse effect on cold resistance.
  • Add cold-resistant plasticizers, these plasticizers can play a lubricating role at low temperatures, so that the activity of the rubber molecular chain segment is enhanced, thereby improving cold resistance.

The heat resistance and cold resistance of rubber products are important performance indicators, which directly affect the use effect and life of the product. In practical applications, the appropriate rubber type and formula should be selected according to specific needs to ensure the stability and reliability of the product in different temperature environments. At the same time, by improving the production process and formula design, the heat resistance and cold resistance of rubber products can be further improved to meet a wider range of application requirements.
